Ten years ago, Orange Corners Morocco alumna Soumaya Betrachi moved from Morocco to Friesland for love. Wanting to give back to her home country and make a social impact, together with her twin sister Zakia she started the Moroccan version of well-known Dutch coffee chain Brownies & Downies.
Their first café, Happy Place, opened in Meknes recently. Through Happy Place, she offers young Moroccans with diverse abilities the chance to enter the labour market and participate in society equally. In an interview with Friesland-based newspaper Leeuwarder Courant, Soumaya spoke about Happy Place, her expansion plans, connecting Morocco and the Netherlands and the role of Orange Corners in her success.
